Week in KC: Summer Farewell Edition

Posted August 14, 2011 11:48am by Kiran

Happy Sunday! This week is bittersweet for most– the lazy, no-homework, sleep-in-late, stay-up-late days of summer are over. School begins.  Fall sports, back-to-school days and nights, homework and crazy schedules will soon fill our weeks.  I have to send a special “good luck wish” to my darling babysitter– she spent lots of her summer with my kids and headed off this morning for her first year at K-State.  I happened to catch her family as they were backing out of their driveway this morning…mom had tears streaming down her face and it brought back so many memories of my own freshman move-in day. Good luck, Katie!  Have fun.

Kate's kindergartner made this list. What will make your list?Has Memorial Day 2009 really come and gone?  That can only mean one thing…it’s the official start of summer! Since our aim at KC Kids Fun is to help you find great things to do with your kids, I thought I’d offer up two lists.  One happens to be a frequently-read and requested list that we came up with last summer.  You longtime readers might remember the “30 Fun Things” list of things to do with your kids in Kansas City over the summer from last year.  I think it’s worth re-posting! The items on this list might serve as a “to-do” list for your summer activities.

The second list I’m offering up (see adjacent graphic) was NOT authored by Kate and I, but by Kate’s 6-year-old daughter.  Although not frequently requested, it might also serve as a “to-do” list for your summer activities!!  Kate tells me that item 2, “Grabing”, doesn’t refer to “grabbing” or “groping”; but gardening.  Now that’s what I call summertime fun.

It’s still not too late for you procrastinators to get your kids enrolled in one of the hundreds of summer camps/classes which are available!  We’ve tried to make it easy on you by providing a comprehensive listing of camps. We’ve sorted them by camp type ie) General Day Camps, Science/Nature Camps, etc.  Check out our 2009 Summer Camp Directory!

So, we’ve shared our ideas with you…READERS, WHAT DO YOU DO IN THE SUMMER WITH YOUR KC KIDS?  DO TELL!!!!

VBS: Vacation Bible Schools in and around Kansas City

Posted May 08, 2009 12:20pm by Kiran

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is something that many families look forward to each summer.  Typically several hours a day for one week, kids enjoy being with their friends, playing games and even learning a thing or two–all in a safe environment.  Most VBS camps are very reasonable, at $20-$40 for the week.  Many churches even offer assistance or scholarships.

This is also a great opportunity for you to check out our extensive Preschool Directory! It’s not too late to get a spot in a fall preschool and we have links to many programs.  Check it out!
