2011 KC Spring Consignment Sales

Posted March 14, 2011 8:45pm by Kiran

Believe it or not, it’s almost time for Kansas City’s 2011 Spring Consignment Sales! There are lots of them popping up all over the city.  Your kids are growing like weeds and the economy is sputtering…a consignment sale might be just what you’ve been looking for– as a buyer, seller or both.

Here’s how they work: you can generally participate by becoming either a consignor, volunteer or shopper.  (Therefore, you can both make and spend money!)  You’ll need to price and tag your items and be prepared to pay an entry fee in the neighborhood of $10.  Then, get ready to take home up to 70% of your sales!  Some sales are limited in scope to only clothing, while others accept and sell anything from clothing to furniture to sporting goods.  We’ve compiled a listing of upcoming sales and maintain the listing of Consignment Sales year-round–you can click here to see it.

If you run or represent a consignment sale–and would like to purchase featured, prominent placement via a Sponsored Listing – (like Here We Grow Again, Kids’ Closet Connection and Rhea Lana’s) – all you need to do is contact me.  Just email me at kiran@kckidsfun.com or leave a comment below. I am also happy to update sale dates for you. Happy Selling!  Happy Shopping!  *Note:  Quite a few of these don’t have the 2011 sale dates yet. Please send them to me so I can update!!*

St. Patrick’s Day Fun in Kansas City – 2011

Posted March 11, 2011 5:46am by Kate

Spring break has snuck up on us. How do I know?! Because Kansas City’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities begin this weekend!

Back in the day, St. Patrick’s Day meant that we headed out to Kelly’s and other Westport bars (are we showing our age?!) but these days, St. Patrick’s Day in KC is a family-friendly holiday! And the fun starts…NOW!

SATURDAY, MARCH 12, 2011

SUNDAY, MARCH 13, 2011

  • Shawnee Parade, Shawnee, KS, 1pm.  Parade begins at Monrovia and Johnson Drive and goes east on Johnson Drive to Nieman.
  • Martin City Parade, Martin City, MO, 2pm.  Parade route goes east on 135th Street from Washington to Holmes.  Parade festivities begin at 11am (Irishpalooza events featuring ponies from Faulkners Ranch and a Young Princess and Prince of the Parade contest at 12:30pm).

THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2011 (THE BIG DAY!!)

  • The granddaddy of them all, the KCMO St. Patrick’s Day Parade, 11:00am.  The parade will go south on Broadway to 41st Street, beginning at 33rd Street–a straight shot! The “family-friendly” end of the parade will be closer to 33rd St and Redemptorist Church; the closer you get to Westport, the more raucous we’ll expect it to be!
  • Main Street Belton St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Belton, MO – 5pm
  • Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Lawrence, KS – 1pm at South Park
  • Leavenworth Parade, downtown Leavenworth, KS, noon.  Runs through the city’s downtown, with a noon start at 4th and Cherokee.
  • If you’re going to the Kansas City parade, you will want to spend some time at Browne’s Irish Market, 3300 Pennsylvania, KCMO.  Irish food will be served up round-the-clock, beginning with breakfast (7am) followed by lunch (11:30am to 4pm).  There will be a family fun area with bounce houses and more.

Kansas City Lenten Fish Fries– 2011

Posted March 09, 2011 10:33am by Kiran

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent.  For practicing Catholics, it means 40 days of complying with Lenten regulations – beginning with fasting today and again on Good Friday.  The “no meat on Fridays” runs throughout the Lenten season. Suffice it to say, though, the rule has spawned the mother of all church fundraisers – the Lenten Friday Night Fish Fry at many of Kansas City’s Catholic churches.

For Catholics, the church fish fry is an easy way to follow the rules without cooking fish at home. For EVERYONE, the church fish fry is great fun, good food and LOTS of fantastic neighbors and friends. Why not find one near you, pack up the kids and close your kitchen for the night?  Most fish fries have branched out and offer a wide variety of items for every palate:  fried, baked and broiled fish, shrimp, cheese pizza and usually outstanding desserts, courtesy of the parishioners!  NO MEAT doesn’t equal NO DESSERT!!!
