  • Kansas City Irish Fest: Crown Center Square and Musical Theater Heritage at Crown Center Commemorate Kansas City’s proud Celtic heritage with three days of music, dancing and tons of kids activities.   • De Soto Days Festival: Enjoy a parade, Classic Car Show, De Soto Days’ 3rd Annual Dog Walk, a carnival, live music and food & craft vendors in De Soto’s Hometown Community! Sept. 3, 5-10pm; Sept. 4, 5-10pm & Sept. 5, 1-11pm; at Miller Memorial Park, 32400 W. 83rd St., De Soto, KS 66018
  • SantaCaliGon Days: The 43rd annual SantaCaliGon Days Festival in Independence, MO, commemorates the origin of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails during the country’s great westward expansion by early pioneers. The region’s oldest and largest festival includes three entertainment stages, artisan, crafter, food and commercial vendor booths, and a large carnival, for fun for the whole family. Runs Sept. 4-7; click here for festival hours. Admission is free, though fees apply to carnival rides and games.   • POPS in the Park: The Kansas City Symphony’s free Labor Day concert celebrates the holiday with familiar classics. Gates open at 5pm, the Symphony’s Instrument Petting Zoo starts at 5:30pm, and pre-concert entertainment provided by the Youth Symphony of Kansas City begins at 6pm. Concert begins at 7pm; at The Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park, 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS.

Kansas City Irish Fest celebrates 10 years! Labor Day weekend!

Labor Day is around the corner and that means it’s time for Kansas City Irish Fest at Crown Center Square! Did you know that Irish Fest is one of the nation’s three largest Irish Festivals?!? Commemorate Kansas City’s proud Celtic heritage with three days of music, dancing and exhibits. The festival will feature more than two dozen locally and nationally known bands, playing traditional music and Celtic rock, and runs August 31 – Sept. 2, 2012.

The massive Kid’s Area this year will focus on activities surrounding Ireland’s great commodity – the Potato!  Activities for kids include:

  • Coloring Contest
  • Wishing Well
  • Irish Fest Bingo
  • Oddball interactive tent
  • temporary tattoos
  • Face painting
  • Music, dancing and food!!

$5 Friday tickets. $10 advance Saturday or Sunday tickets, $15 at the gate on Saturday/Sunday, $25 advance three-day (weekend pass) tickets. Festival hours: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Call 816-997-0837 or KCIrishFest.com for more info.
