2017 Kansas City Summer Camps: General Day and Overnight Camps

Looking for a traditional summer camp in the Kansas City area? Here is our list of 2017 general day and overnight camps – some of these camps have no theme, no greater purpose other than fun; some of them have tons of fun themes to choose from to offer a summer full of fun for your kiddos!

In addition to the listings below, it’s always a good idea to check with your local parks and recreation department. The Kansas City area parks and rec departments are really fabulous, and offer a variety of camps and summer-time activities. Many are listed below, but you can also find their websites by clicking the Classes link on the right side of this page.
  • Asbury Children’s Center at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St. Prairie Village, KS  66208; (913) 432-5573. Summer programming available for K-6.
  • A Thyme For Everything (Lee’s Summit, MO) – culinary camps have been offered in the past, currently offering cooking classes for kids throughout the summer
  • Barstow School: Summer at Barstow offers a spectacular camp experience for children ages 3-18. There are more than 300 camps in academics, arts, crafts, cooking, dance, theater, science, technology, math and sports.
  • Blue Springs Summer Day Camp (Blue Springs, MO) Open to kids ages 5 – 12 from 9am-4pm with the option of Before and After Care.  Weekly field trips, lots of fun games, exciting science experiments, cool crafts, new sports and new friends included.
  • Blue Valley Recreation (south Johnson County, KS) has many different summer offerings. At time of publication, BVRC has not yet listed their camps, but typically offers sports, cooking, technology, music, arts/crafts, and Special Olympics for summer fun!
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City (Kansas City, MO/Kansas City, KS/Independence, MO) has programs for kids from 5-18. You’ll need to call your local club for more details on this summer’s offerings!
  • Brookridge Day School (Overland Park, KS)offers summer school – keep an eye on their website for details!
  • Calvary Lutheran Church and School VERB Summer Program (south Kansas City, MO) offers summer care/camp for kids who have finished kindergarten through 5th grade. Lots of activities, field trips, etc. Good hours for working parents.
  • Camp ECC (south Kansas City, MO) – Camp ECC is a summer program for preschool children who are 3-5 years old. Camp runs Tuesday thru Thursday from 9am-1pm and each week revolves around a fun theme.
  • Camp Invention (several locations in the KC Metro area) is a hands-on science and creativity camp for grades 1 thru 6. Lots of different offerings. Really interesting and something to check out!
  • Camp Manitowa (Rend Lake, Southern Illinois) offers all the traditional camp activities and the best in camper attention and parent customer service.
  • Carver Christian Academy Summer Program (7203 Paseo, KCMO)-an academic program in the morning and a recreational program in the afternoon. Call (816) 361-1548 and leave a message to receive an enrollment packet.
  • City of Lenexa, KS – offers multiple camps during the summer, including theater, sports, and LEGO STEAM themes
  • Camp Chippewa (Ottawa, KS) is a Methodist overnight camp with traditional camp activities for kids from K to 12th grade.
  • Camp Eagle Summit at Lee’s Summit Community Christian School(Lee’s Summit, MO) is a summer day camp with before and after care. Weekly themes with lots of fun activities and outings. Your child does not have to attend the school to go to Camp Eagle Summit.
  • Camp Shawnee (Waldron, MO – Platte County near Parkville) – traditional day camps and overnight camps for ages 5 to 16. Affiliated with Camp Fire USA.
  • Camp Summit (Lee’s Summit, MO) – open all summer.  Open to 5 -11 years olds. Field trips, daily swimming at Summit Waves, daily snack and a safe, fun, energetic environment for your child.
  • Camp Taum Sauk (Lesterville, MO – southwest of Rolla, about 6 hrs from KC) is a co-ed residential camp with a variety of sessions for kids ages 8 to 15. ACA accredited with traditional camp activities.
  • Camp Tekakwitha at Prairie Star Ranch (Williamsburg, KS) – sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS, this is an overnight adventure camp for grades 5 through 12 (separate sessions). Great outdoor activities as well as prayer and Scripture.
  • Camp Wornall (Kansas City, MO) is held at the historic Alexander Majors House at 82nd & State Line (Mon-Thurs) and at the John Wornall House in the Loose Park/Brookside area (Fri). Kids ages 6 to 12 will learn about life and childhood in the 1800s with tons of hands-on activities.  Two 1-week sessions available.
  • Camp Wood (Elmdale, KS) is a YMCA residential camp for kids ages 7 to 17. One and two week sessions are available and include traditional camps, horse camps, skateboard camp and music camps.
  • Christ Lutheran Pre-Kindergarten (Platte Woods, MO)  offers VBS during the summer
  • Clay-Platte Montessori School (Northland) offers camps for ages 2 – 12 including sports, science, art, cooking, computers, language, crafts and more. Some offered by the week; others offered on flexible daily schedule.
  • Congregation Beth Shalom (Overland Park, KS) Fun in the Sun Summer Camps offer options for kids ages 18 months through kindergarten.
  • Creative World CampTastic is a Funderful, Laugheriffic, Blastastic summer adventure for kids ages 6-10! Each week, offers a different theme with field trips, activities, and a special event day. Six locations: Belton/RaymoreBlue SpringsLee’s SummitLibertyIndependence, and Kansas City, MO.
  • Cub Scouts of Heart of America Council (various locations) sponsors three to five day long day camps for Cub Scouts as well as residential camps of varying lengths for Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts and Boy Scouts. BB guns, bows and arrows, nature, crafts and games.
  • Earnest Shepherd Memorial Youth Center (Liberty, MO) – Features 60 acres of hills, creeks, and bridges to roam, and themed day camps for K-6th graders.
  • The Field Trip Club (Olathe, KS) – Campers ages 5-15 enjoy 15 field trip adventures every week for a great summer blend of educational & recreational programs.
  • Goddard School (various locations) has summer care/camps for preschool and elementary school-aged children. Great activities, great hours, different themes each week.
  • Gymboree Play & Music (various locations) typically has special play and music offerings during the summer for babies through age 5.
  • Heartland Camp (Parkville, MO & Olathe, KS) hosts day and overnight camps with typical camp activities including sports, swimming, music, crafts and games as well as regular Bible study.
  • Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City (Overland Park, KS) has summer day camps for all ages as well as sports, LEGO engineering, theater, culinary, and dance camps! Before- and after-care and after-camp activities also available.
  • Johnson County Community College Summer Youth Enrichment Program (Overland Park, KS) has academic enrichment for students in grades 6-12. There are some REALLY cool-sounding camp/courses at JCCC this summer!
  • Johnson County Parks & Recreation Summer Day Camps (various locations) include fun day camps, preschool camps, sports camps, performing arts camps and nature/science camps! Full- and partial-day programs available.
  • Kanakuk Kamps (Lake Taneycomo and Tablerock Lake, MO) are Christian-based overnight camps with varied-length sessions. Campers will enjoy traditional camp activities.
  • KC Parks Summer Enrichment & Sports Camps: Get ready for 10 weeks of fun! Campers work on art projects, play their favorite games and sports, take swim trips, and visit local attractions on weekly field trips. Sports camp also available now!
  • KU Edwards Campus Summer Camps (Overland Park, KS) – KU Edwards Campus is hosting a variety of summer camps for children who are interested in expanding their minds.
  • Learning 2 Fly (Mission, KS) – day camps focusing on youth health, mind and body, art and aerial fitness skills! Activities include daily exercise, community gardening and art.
  • Leawood Summer Camps (Leawood, KS) – Leawood Parks & Recreation offers half and full day camps for kids to explore a wide variety activities. Arts, sports, outdoor and “extreme tween” camps in addition to adventure camps held at City Park, Ironwoods Park and Community Center.
  • Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site (Olathe, KS) offers one-day and week-long summer camps with different themes. All camps feature lots of hands-on activities. Camps are recommended for ages 7-12. Learn more at or call 913-971-5111
  • Metropolitan Community College College for Kids offers enrichment opportunities for kids and teens ages 5-17. Classes are designed to develop new interests, teach meaningful skills and excite students about learning.No info posted on their website yet but check back!
  • Mission (KS) Parks & Recreation – Mission Summer Camp and Teen n Tween camps offer a variety of age-appropriate activities for kids Kindergarten through age 15.
  • Missouri Military Academy Enrichment and Recovery Academy (Mexico, MO) has day and residential programs geared towards academics and study skills with a variety of activities and sports in the afternoons and weekends. This is not a military program. For boys ages 8-17.
  • Museum Kids Summer Workshops at the Kansas City Museum(KCMO) check back later this spring for upcoming programs.

  • North Kansas City Schools Community Education Services (North Kansas City, MO) offers summer learning programs.
  • Notre Dame de Sion (Kansas City, MO) hosts a variety of camps at its elementary and high school campuses with programs offered for pre-school Montessori through 8th grade students.
  • Oakhill Day School (Northland) offers many different sessions for grades 2-8. The sessions include cooking, computers, karate, academics, sports, swimming and more. Full- and part-day programs available. 816-436-6228
  • Pembroke Hill School (Kansas City, MO) holds an extensive summer program, similar in breadth to the Barstow program, for kids ages 2-18. There are many themed classes for a variety of interests, plus the hours are excellent for working parents!
  • Primrose School of Overland Park (OP, KS) Summer Adventure Club offers a new theme for campers to enjoy each week! From the great outdoors to science and food fun, Camp Primrose is for children ages 5-12.
  • Rock Springs Family Camp (Junction City, KS) – overnight sessions for Mom, Dad AND the kids! Horseback riding, swimming, hiking, fishing, trap shooting, crafts and more!
  • St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School (Kansas City, MO) offers Summer in the City morning and afternoon classes in art, music, theater, soccer, basketball, academics, cooking and more!
  • St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, KS) sponsors several day camps for boys and girls in K-8, including sports, cheer, chess, cooking, dance and vocal music.
  • Shawnee Mission School District (Johnson County, KS) has an amazingly broad Summer Enrichment Program for students in preschool through 8th grade. Programs range from art, math, computers, sports, science and music to theatre, cooking, woodworking and foreign languages.
  • Summer Camps at Kids R Kids School (Olathe, KS) has weekly-themed projects, activities and field trips. Great hours for working parents!
  • Tall Oaks Camp (Linwood, KS) hosts several day and overnight camps for the Disciples of Christ Christian Churches. Camps for kids K thru 12 are available as well as family camps and grandparent camps!
  • Turner Recreation Commission’s Adventure Camp (Kansas City, KS) lets children participate in group games, arts and crafts, swimming and off-site field trips. Camp offerings for ages 5-12.
  • Victory Temple Christian Life Center (KCMO) offers summer programming for kids.
  • Wildwood Outdoor Education Center (near LaCygne, KS) offers residential camping in a gorgeous setting. Five-day programs for boys and girls ages 7-15 . An incredible outdoorsy camp with an emphasis on leadership and self-esteem. Full and mini sessions available for this overnight camp.
  • YMCA Summer Day Camps (various locations) The YMCA is one of the Kansas City metro’s best resources for kids’ camps. They’ve got sports camps, outdoor camps, fine arts camps and traditional day camps offered through many local school districts.
  • Youthfront Camps (near Edgerton and LaCygne, KS) has Christian-based day camps for kids grades 1-5, and overnight camps for kids in grades 3-12. There are week-long sessions for middle and high schoolers, and half-week sessions for the younger ones. Traditional, fun camp activities! Youthfront Camp West is perfect for upper elementary and middle school age students!
  • Youth Tech Inc., (Kansas City) offers a non-profit computer camp dedicated to providing enrichment opportunities for students with a passion for learning. They offer courses like Video Game Design, Animation, Web Design, Movie Makers and much more.

Everywhere we look there are new sports camps popping up in the Kansas City metro area. We won’t even begin to scratch the surface with this 2017 Kansas City Sports Camps list, but we’ll give a go! The obvious place to start is with your local parks and recreation department. Click here for some easy links to parks and rec websites.

  • Academy of Riding Starlight Stables (Liberty, MO) offers equestrian summer day camps in June for all levels of experience with lessons in riding, saddling and bridling, stable maintenance, breeds/colors, equine anatomy and safety.
  • Barstow School Summer Camps (south Kansas City, MO) has a great variety of camps for all ages – baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, football, fencing, golf, gymnastics, rock-climbing and horsemanship.

  • Blue Valley Recreation (south Johnson County, KS) hosts many different camps all summer long for various age groups and sports. Check their online catalog for details.
  • Blue Valley Soccer Club (south Johnson County, KS) will host recreation-level and premier-level soccer camps – for ages 5 through high school.
  • Camp WIN (Kansas City, MO) put on by KC Sports Commission, whose mission is to empower girls and women through sports. WIN for KC offers a fun, safe and encouraging environment for the girls ages 6-12 to explore and learn these different activities.
  • Challenger British Soccer Camps (multiple locations across the Kansas City metro area), through city and county parks and recreation department and private soccer clubs, holds TONS of camps for kids of all ages and skill levels. The instructors are excellent young British coaches with a high level of skill and patience
  • Coach Rocky Lamar’s Fundamentally Driven Basketball Camp(Olathe, KS) is one of the most well-respected camps in the metro area. The camp is held in Olathe at the Mid-America Nazarene University. Camps are offered for boys, grades 1-10 and are coached by MNU’s basketball coaches and varsity players.
  • Comets Summer Soccer Camps: The emphasis for these camps is on learning the techniques of soccer and to introduce the tactical components of the game. These camps offer a challenging training environment for young soccer players to enhance their skills.
  • Dave’s Gymnastics Factory (Lee’s Summit, MO) offers a full day camp for ages 5 to 11, all summer long. Activities include not only gym time but also outdoor activities, arts and crafts and swimming.
  • Eagles Gymnastics (south Kansas City, MO) has day camps with different themes each week. Each camp includes gymnastics and special activities related to the week’s theme. Boys and girls of all ages are welcome to get into the action at Eagles!
  • Faulkner’s Ranch Pony Camps and Clinics (Lee’s Summit, MO)  Your kids can learn what it’s like to take care of a pony at Faulkner’s Pony Camp!  Kids will learn important equine skills and how to groom, feed and ride ponies during this fun week at the ranch.  For children ages 5-10, with a maximum of 12 campers per session. Full day camp available 9am-3pm.
  • Flip Zone (Lee’s Summit, MO) open gyms, birthdays, field trips, summer camps, swim lessons in the summer, rec classes, competitive gymnastics and cheer.
  • First Tee of Greater Kansas City (many locations across the city) hosts junior golf camps at public courses to teach kids ages 5 and up golf skills and life skills. Classes and leagues are also available.
  • Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE Center) – Bump City Kids Club (Blue Springs, MO) offers week-long, full-day camps all summer long for ages 5 to 12. Activities include gymnastics, rock climbing, games, sports, swimming and more.  Offering full time, part time and extended care.
  • Heartland Fencing Academy (Lenexa, KS) will be holding introduction to fencing Spring Break and Summer camps for kids ages 7-13.
  • Horsin’ Around at Midnight Farm Horsin’ Around is a horsemanship day camp for children ages 6-16 with or without special needs. Campers will learn riding skills, general horse knowledge and ground skills to help them become well-rounded riders. Camp will also include horse-themed crafts, games, pony parade and a horse show on the last day.
  • i9 Sports Camps (Lenexa, KS) Multi-sport camps are designed to keep your kids safe, active, and educated in sports and life.  Campers will get loads of instruction and game-play.  Sports include flag football, soccer, basketball, and more!
  • Integrity Gymnastics  (Overland Park, KS): Offering team and recreational gymnastics for ALL ages. Choose from full or half day options, or a mix of both. Tons of fun daily and half-day themes to keep the kids moving and interested in activities.
  • Integrity Martial Arts Academy (Kansas City, MO, Overland Park, KS, Grandview, MO) offers an “active” and fun-filled summer day camp that is affordable and will enhance your child’s self-esteem, discipline and character.Beginners are welcome; no experience necessary! Activities include martial arts training by certified Black Belt instructors, challenging team work exercises, confidence building activities, anti-bullying training and street safety, organized recreational games, demonstrations, movies, yoga and much more.
  • Jayhawk Baseball Camp:  A variety of baseball camps and clinics throughout the year. Held at the KU field and run by the KU baseball coaching staff and players.
  • JT Farms Horseback Riding Lessons (Polo, MO) teaches students how to be safe around horses, handle, groom and ride them.  Program is two hours, $20/rider.  JT Farms has 10 acres…enjoy the peace and quiet and nature! Please call 816-935-0509.
  • Johnson County Community College (Overland Park, KS) offers camps for just about every sport you can think of – as well as before- and after-camp activities.
  • Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers over 30 summer camp programs for ages 3-18.  Included are camps focusing on recreation, sports, water activities and hiking!  Dates, locations and fees vary.
  • Kansas City Athletic Cheer – KCAC (Overland Park, KS) has hosted tumbling and stunt programs year-round for all ages.
  • Kansas City Fencing Center (Overland Park, KS) offers introductory, recreational and competitive fencing camps for kids ages 7 and up.  Dodgeball camp has been added for campers aged 8 – 16.
  • Kansas Gymnastics & Cheer (Olathe, KS) has hosted summertime gymnastics camps (preschool and recreational) for ages 3 and up in the past.  A full rotation around the gym along with arts/crafts activities and free time! Check back with their website or give them a call for details.
  • Kansas Rush Soccer Club (Olathe, KS) will offer week-long soccer camps for kids ages 5 and up; recreational and competitive levels.
  • KC Watersports (Paola/Hillsdale, KS) offers 1, 5, and 10-day camps for kids, full of water sports fun!
  • Ko Martial Arts (Overland Park, KS) -KOMA is the largest martial arts school in Johnson County and they are hosting numerous summer camps! Register at
  • Lone Wolf Ranch and Arena Horse Camps (near Cleveland, MO) gives your equine-loving kids a chance to immerse themselves in all things horse-related. Basic Horsemanship Camp teaches beginning and intermediate riders everything from animal care to safe riding techniques.
  • My Gym Children’s Fitness Center (south Overland Park, KS) Kids will participate in music, dance, story-time, games, relays and MY GYM activities!  Weekly themes throughout the summer!
  • Northland Youth Football Camp (Liberty, MO) hosts kids ages 5-14 for a four evening football camp at William Jewell College.
  • Pembroke Hill Summer Camps (Kansas City, MO) offer a little bit of EVERYTHING including sports like basketball, mixed martial arts, climbing, soccer and volleyball.
  • Pinnacle Gymnastics (Shawnee and Overland Park, KS)– Weekly themed summer camps for ages 5 and up with mini camps for ages 3 – 5 yrs.
  • R&R Stables (Lee’s Summit, MO) offers a host of horse riding clinics and lessons throughout the year. Contact them at (816) 246-4001 for more information.
  • Rockhurst High School (Kansas City, MO) hosts several different sports camps this summer. These include baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling.
  • Sagasu Family Martial Arts (Leavenworth KS) Offers a variety of lessons throughout the summer. No updates on summer camps to date, check back on their website soon.
  • St.  Teresa’s Academy Summer Camps (Kansas City, MO) offers basketball, volleyball, tennis, softball, dancing, lacrosse, soccer, and distance running instruction for girls in grades 4-9.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas Summer Camps (Overland Park, KS) has grade school camps for baseball, basketball, football and wrestling (boys) and basketball, cheer, softball and volleyball (girls) for grades K-8.
  • Tally Ho Equestrian Centre Horse Riding Camp (Leavenworth, KS) has week-long sessions throughout the summer for ages 5 and up.
  • Tamashii Black Belt Academy (Lee’s Summit, MO) offers a year-round Karate program and a wide variety of camps that go well beyond martial arts! Tons of fun field trips and great hours for working parents
  • TOUR Academy Junior Summer Golf Camps at Shoal Creek Golf Club (KCMO) offers overnight, full, and half-day camps for various skill levels. Campers receive great instruction, including golf fundamentals such as full swing mechanics, putting, and chipping. TOUR Academy focuses on good sportsmanship, integrity and other skills which can be applied both on and off the course.
  • YMCA (20 locations in the metro) offers camps for 5-15 year olds and run all summer long.  Bonus:  before and after-camp care is available, as is financial assistance.
