Summer movies in Kansas City- week of July 4, 2011

Posted July 06, 2011 10:52am by Kiran

We’ve gotten a break from the heat and it’s perfect for grabbing a picnic blanket and taking in a movie with your family. There are several free options all around the metro, from Independence to Kansas City North (Briarcliff Village) to Crown Center’s popular Friday Night Flicks series.  Crown Center’s Screenland also runs discounted family movies throughout the summer.

If you’ve never taken the family, you might want to experience the drive-in! Yes, there are still a few operational drive-in movie theaters out there, and Kansas City doesn’t disappoint. The Boulevard Drive-In (1051 Merriam Lane, Merriam, Kansas) is self-desribed as ‘The World’s Greatest Drive-In’. Features first-run movies. Call 913.262.0392 for more info.  The I-70 Four Screen (8701 E. US 40 Hwy, KCMO) might be the largest drive-in the state of Missouri.  Call 816.257.2234 for showtimes and info. For a step back in time, try the Twin Drive-In (1320 N. M-291 Hwy, Independence).  It is one of the oldest drive-in movie theaters in town. Call 816.257.2234 for showtimes.

Max & Ruby Ticket Giveaway! 5 will win!

Posted March 26, 2011 2:45pm by Kiran

Thanks to our friends at The Midland by AMC in downtown Kansas City, we have Max & Ruby Bunny Party tickets!  And we have lots of them- 5 sets of 4 tickets.  Do the math– 20 folks will get to see Max & Ruby on Sunday, June 12…for FREE!

If you haven’t been to The Midland, there’s lots of history to take in.  It’s located in downtown Kansas City on Main Street in the Power & Light District, and the original Midland Theatre opened in 1927.  The recently renovated Midland hosts musical acts, comedians, family productions and even private/corporate events.

If you go to Max & Ruby– why not make an afternoon or evening of it?  The Power & Light District has some terrific options for family dining.  You might consider Famous Dave’s BBQ, Gordon Biersch Brewery/Restaurant, McFadden’s, The Mixx, Mema’s Bakery (the cinnamon rolls aren’t to be missed!), Johnny’s Tavern or even the new Whopper Bar, Burger King’s latest concept and foray into the fast-growing gourmet burger category.

So…how to win the tickets???  It’s easy.  Simply leave us a comment, at the bottom of this post, and tell us how you like to welcome Spring to KC (assuming it really will come this year).  A trip to the Plaza to see the bunnies? A visit to Loose Park?  The zoo?  Deanna Rose Farmstead?  Please leave your comment/entry by Wednesday, March 30 at 6pm.  5 lucky winners will be randomly chosen, and each will receive 4 tickets to the show! I’ll announce the winners on this website, on Facebook and via private email. Good Luck.
