What is the SAFEHOME Children’s Program?

SAFEHOME, Johnson County’s only domestic violence agency, provides safe shelter and supportive services to victims of domestic abuse and their children. SAFEHOME helps children overcome the negative effects of domestic violence through their Children’s Program.

The purpose of the Children’s Program is to provide a safe and therapeutic environment where children and their mothers can heal from the violence they have experienced. The program emphasizes the use of art and play therapy to help children express their feelings regarding the violence that they have experienced and to learn alternatives to abusive behavior. Their Children’s Center provides a safe place for children to go while their mothers are attending counseling or advocacy appointments. The Children’s Program also coordinates several fun family activities to help strengthen the parent/child relationship which is often strained by the abusive environment.

How the SAFEHOME Children’s Wish List Works and How YOU Can Help

So, what can YOU do? Click here to take a look at the SAFEHOME Children’s Wish List. Then choose an item or several items you would like to donate to the SAFEHOME Children’s Program. This is your chance to give to some children who really need your help – whether it be a single book or a large toy, some furniture, diapers, food or clothing. There are items in every price range – give as little or as much as you’d like. EVERY donation is appreciated. These are families who have most likely fled their homes and their abusers with only the clothes on their back, leaving toys, furniture and more behind.

After you have chosen your item(s) to donate and paid for it through the Amazon wishlist, the item(s) will be shipped directly to SAFEHOME and you’re finished! It’s just that easy to give.

SAFEHOME is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. So, your donation is tax-deductible – simply retain your Amazon email confirmation/receipt for your tax records.
