The beginning of the school year is drawing closer and closer, but there are still many fun things happening in KC this month to keep the kids (and you!) entertained before, during and after school begins…

The annual Festival of Butterflies is three weeks long this year, and lets you walk among tons of native and exotic butterflies (including the giant Blue Morpho), touch live caterpillars, learn about Monarchs, and experience wild dragonflies up-close and personal! Through August 20.

Prelude to the Solar Eclipse & Free Summer Concert: Join the experts – members of the Astronomical Society of Kansas – for an evening of sky tours on Aug. 11. Your little scientist can get all of his or her solar eclipse questions answered, view the sky, and see real meteorites. Plus, enjoy the music of KC’s local band, the Phantastics from 7-9pm. This free event is 6:30-9pm at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., KCMO 64123. Note: Keep watching KC Kids Fun & visit our events calendar for more family-friendly solar eclipse happenings in KC.

Sprint Family Fun Days: Don’t miss out on Summer Splash fun, August 12, with the music of Mr. Stinky Feet, Mad Science wave craze, puppet shows, zoo animals, mini golf, and more! Free admission with premium activities available for a fee. 11am-3pm, every second Saturday of the month through October on 14th Street between Main Street & Walnut Street in the Kansas City Power & Light District. The Sep. 9 theme is Ultimate Field Day and the Oct. 14 theme is Fall Festival.

Ethnic Enrichment Festival: Always a favorite, the annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival brings the world together through a mix of native foods, crafts and ethnically diverse musical and dance performances. It’s an incredible way to enjoy fantastic food and entertainment while exposing your kiddos to the wonderful melting pot that makes our city and country so diverse. The festival happens August 18-20, 2017, near the front entrance of Swope Park. Admission for adults is $5/person, kids 12 and under are free.
