Have you checked out the 2009 Sprint Center calendar lately? I’m kinda itchin’ to see Def Leppard and Poison on July 21st (did I just out myself as a child of the ’80s?!). But there are quite a few family-friendly events coming up downtown over the next few months. Mark your calendars and buy your tickets now!
July 22, 2009 – First up, Demi Lovato and David Archuleta on July 22nd. Your Disney Channel aficionados will be all over this one – Lovato was in the Jonas Brothers’ movie Camp Rock and has toured with them. Archuleta is the fresh-faced teenager from Utah who was runner-up to local star David Cook on last year’s American Idol. July 29, 2009 – A week later, on July 29th, Sprint Center will host the Jonas Brothers themselves. This will be their third appearance in Kansas City by my calculations and their popularity doesn’t seem to be waning. Even my six- and seven-year-olds know these guys and their music.
August 1, 2009 – After the JoBros leave town, The Wiggles move in! Two shows on August 1st are sure to please preschoolers across the metro. August 30, 2009 – The end of August brings the American Idols Live 2009 tour to Kansas City. Are your kids Idol fans? Head downtown on August 30th, grab a fun dinner and then treat them to a concert by Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre.
September 16-20, 2009 – Everyone’s annual favorite – the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus – comes to Sprint Center from September 16th through September 20th. Watch the elephant walk from Union Station to Sprint Center! Take your pick of several different days and times to meet your family’s schedule. My kids talk about the circus all year long.
September 22, 2009 – After the circus packs up and heads on down the rails, Sprint Center will once again host NHL hockey! On September 22nd, the Los Angeles Kings will play the New York Islanders in a Kansas City exhibition. If you’ve never been to a professional hockey game before, you should definitely give it a try. Fast and fun! Your kids will get a kick out of it for sure. October 3, 2009 – And then, on October 3rd, is Miley Cyrus in concert at Sprint Center. Do I even need to say anything about this phenomenon?!
So, for every Aerosmith, Green Day, Keith Urban and Def Leppard (okay, maybe I’m headed over to Ticketmaster.com after I finish writing this…I clearly have a problem) concert on the schedule, Sprint Center has a few family-friendly events planned too. Make it a date with your kids – heading downtown for dinner (even if it’s at a sandwich shop or pizza joint on the way) and then to the show – it’ll surely be a big time and you’ll be a big hit!
