“Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”
Well, that’s because they’re in Missouri. Kansas City, Missouri. Crown Center to be exact.
Starting tomorrow (January 31st) and running through April 26th, the 70 Years of Oz Oh My! exhibit at Crown Center is sure to be a family-pleasing event. As the title of the show indicates, this is a celebration of the 70th birthday of the iconic movie, Wizard of Oz.
Trace Dorothy’s footsteps through the Land of Oz, from the moment her house plops down in Munchkin Land until she clicks her ruby red slippers to return to Kansas. Along the yellow brick road, families can tour the enchanting world of the Munchkins, meet up with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, locate the Wizard in Emerald City, and sneak inside the Wicked Witch’s eerie castle. A portion of the exhibit showcases decades of Oz memorabilia from local Oz enthusiast, Jane Albright.
There will be some fun events planned throughout the exhibit’s run. On February 21 and 22, Albright will present “Oz Trivia” at 1pm and 2pm. On March 28 and 29, “Glinda the Good Witch” will pose for photos from noon to 4pm. And on April 4, 11, 18 and 25, Oz characters will come to life at Crown Center (actors dressed as the characters for interaction and photos)!
There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.
