We went to the Plaza Art Fair last weekend (I guess it wasn’t technically fall yet) but had a fabulous time in the kids art and entertainment area, looking at the art, and eating great food! The kids had such a good time coloring, playing at the Wonderscope exhibit and climbing around on the animal playground! Then it was a beautiful evening for the kids to sack out in their strollers and the adults had some art time! But what we are so excited to do this fall is to go to the Plaza on October 25th to see the amazing Waterfire on Brush Creek! We missed last year because I was pregnant and unfortunately very nauseous… so we are so glad it’s coming back! Yea Kansas City!!!!

Fall to us is going and collecting leaves on the ground and comparing them to animals, or using them to paint pictures with. We also like to play at the different pumpkin places in Kansas City.

You have to drive north, just a little, to get to our favorite Fall event, Pumpkinfest in St. Joseph MO. This year’s dates are Oct 10-12. Pumpkinfest has been on HGTV and Family Fun magazine. It is a family arts festival held on in the park in front of the Pony Express Stables, 914 Penn St St Joseph MO, so you can catch some history, too. Geared for kids up to 12, there is a carnival and games area. A stage features lots of kids entertainment, music, puppets, etc. There have been author signings. It is probably most noted for Pumpkin Mountain, a 25′ tall by 60′ long wall of scaffolding with hundreds (around 700) of carved jack o lanterns that all go on with a flick of a switch at 8pm on Friday. Lots of art activities for the kids, too, and a parade. For details, check the ponyexpress.org web site.

I am so glad I found this site. It tells us so much that is going on around town, that we never have a hard time finding something to do. Thank you for listing all the fall activities. I can’t wait to the Carolyn Cousin’s pumpkin patch. There is so much to do there. Even my wheelchair bound mother had a great time get pumpkins and riding the train. It is now our favorite spot in the fall.

We love Halloween activities. One of the best is the Lenexa Enchanted Forest at Sar-Ko-Par trails park off 87th street. For just $1.00 admission, you walk along the trail and see Halloween characters, magicians, singers, and dancers and the kids just love it.
