The best thing we did this summer in KC was a full day at Union Station/Crown Center – milkshakes at the diner counter, trains, a Theatre for Young America play, a run thru the Blue Link to Crown Center, hot dogs at Fritz’s, escalator rides and a good soak in the fountains on Crown Center Square!

  2. Sachia says:

We went to Deanna Rose Farm in Stillwell,Ks. What a fun place to go and for free. You can even take a lunch or buy something there. Something there for everyone.

Royals game!! The kids loved the fireworks, cotton candy, hot dogs, popcorn, etc. It was their first game and very memorable! Can’t wait to do it again!

One of our best KC summer days was breakfast with the authors at Reading Reptile. It was raining, so we did a tour of John Wornall House with a peak down the window seat opening to the basement, followed by lunch at Winstead’s. YUM. Then we strolled a bit behind a damp Anita Gorman Conservation Discovery Center and enjoyed a bunch of their fun activities inside, making several learning crafts. Then we had about an hour to quickly go through the Nelson-Atkins, and I mean quick! We thought we crammed about as much into a day as was possible.

We went to visit the BEAUTIFUL Powell Gardens to see the Butterfly Festival- It was our first year to attend! Our two year old son was so intrigued and had the attention span of an adult! The second we walked in our 2 month old had a butterfly land on his leg! We also had a wonderful time walking the grounds on a slightly damp and cloudy day in the lower 70’s (in early August)! It was so pretty and so much fun! Powell Gardens is amazing!!!

  8. Amy says:

The best night my son had this summer was going to a T-Bones game and getting the chance to camp out on the field over night.

  9. Amanda McCann says:

The best time we had this summer was going to Dave and Busters and walking around the Legends. We won lots of tickets and played lots of games. We then had ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

  10. Angie Clifton says:

The best time we had this summer with our children was the Splash Cove pools in Shawnee. WOW! It was like a mini Oceans of Fun without all of the hassle, drive and expense!

  11. Sharon says:

Our best day happened only a few weeks ago. My children and I participated in a Marble Tournament on the UMKC campus. The tournament should have broken the old Guinness Book of World Records for the most players in a marble tournament at one time. Directly afterwards, all participants could then go freely to the Toy & Miniature Museum. I loved it there. We lingered for about three hours. This is a fascinating museum, if you’ve never been. There was also a demonstration on marble making to keep the theme of the day. My children and I had a blast.

The best day we had with our son this summer here in KC was when we spent the entire day at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun!!! Even though he isn’t “tall enough” to ride the ‘big’ rides, we had a ball riding the Log ride over and over and over again, until we finally headed off to Oceans of Fun – or Waters of Fun as he calls it! He is finally tall enough to ride the Aruba Tuba! That is the favorite! After lots of fun in the sun, if you will, we headed to a little Mexican place in Claycomo. Yummy! We probably didn’t look our best (or smell our best either) but we had a great day!

Our family did a lot of fun things this summer but, after taking a poll, it appears that the MOST fun we had was just recently – the Kansas City Irish Fest ‘08! We actually hit the Moneyville exhibit in Crown Center for a little bit o’ learning first. Who says Mom can’t make a festival that most people equate with ale somehow educational? After the exhibit, we traversed the huge celebration, noting all the different things that celebrate Irish heritage. We each got something different to eat so we could sample several delicacies we’d never tried before. While we ate, we watched the astounding Irish dancers and listened to the different bands play. The children’s tent had crafts, games, and face painting. The older children enjoyed the “Dance Dance Revolution” tent. We even have a few pictures of Mom giving it a go…which, unfortunately, only serves to memorialize the fact that she was out of step most of the time. What seems made especially for parents though, are the huge inflatable wonders that provide hours of entertainment for the kids…and thoroughly wear them out just in time to go home to bed. We had a fantastic time at the Irish Fest and the kids have already asked about next year…

  14. Michelle says:

The best outing we had this summer was when we went to the Kansas City Zoo. My sister in law, her 3 kids, my son and myself all went. We had a great time going thru the Africa part and then it started to get cloudy so we took the boat ride across and it started pouring rain!!! We then had to run thru the rain trying to get back to the car. The kids really loved it and we were all soaked!!!

  15. Beth says:

We started out the summer at the Jiggle Jam at Crown Center. My 7 year old and my 17 month old each found things to enjoy. The variety of music was great and there were many other activities for the kids (and parents) to enjoy!

  16. We took our 3 very young ( 4 and under ) grandchildren to crown centers water park, and had a wonderful time. Then to get ice cream at the Crown Center Mall.

Every trip to Deanna Rose Farmstead is a hit! We also enjoyed Shatto Milk Co. tour, the Festival of Butterflies, Sunset Safari at the KC Zoo, Paradise Park, Crown Center, Amtrak from Union Station to Lee’s Summit, KC Aviation & Airshow, and MO Town Children’s Festival. We’re looking forward to the Circus this weekend!

Our family had a great Colorado vacation this summer. We went to the mountains and walked along the rocks. we went to a historical gold mine place. It was a little hot, and the wildlife animals were kinda shy. We still had alot of fun and the mountains were beautiful.

  20. Alex says:

Visit to Renaissance Festival was great. Lots of stuff to do for kids. Great shows.

  21. Bett says:

Our best night out this summer was to the CACU Picnic out at the T-Bones field. They had lots of arts & crafts, things for the kids to play on, gaming trailer, free food, and an awesome fireworks display.

  22. Elyse says:

We love doing lots of things around KC. Our kids 6,8,10 love the Renaissance Festival, Blueberry picking, and hope to go the Circus this weekend. Love the kids stuff at the Art fairs (Prairie Village, Brookside and Plaza).

  23. Melinda says:

We just went to the Circus last night which all the grandkids Loved. Sprint Center was on top of their game, my mother is in a wheelchair and they were right by her side to escort her to the elevator and our seats. We don’t get that treatment everywhere we go. Thanks to Sprint Center we will rate this as one of many fun things we did this summer…This one just being the most recent…The circus was awesome they are here until the 14th…everyone should try to go.

  24. Nikita Jackson says:

We enjoyed spending time with our family at our family reunion. We visited the Nelson Art Gallery, ate Dinner at Golden Coral, and had a picnic the next day.

  25. Jennifer Jones says:

My son loved walking with the Dinosaurs at the sprint center. He also loves to go listen to kid friendly bands and dance the night away.

  26. Teri C says:

We took our 7 year old daughter to Deanna Rose Farmstead where we feed the animals, fished, mined for “gold”, bottle feed pigmy goats, and she had a pony ride. After several hours and much excitement, we ended the day at a picnic table and broke out the picnic lunch she helped me pack that morning. While we ate we threw bread to the birds and chips to the squirrels. It was a perfect day!

  27. Steve H says:

The best activity we shared this summer was enjoying some small town fun with friends in nearby Tonganoxie. The newly renovated water park is amazing!

  28. Karen says:

It’s hard to pick the best activity; pretty much a three way tie between a T-Bones game, swimming at Tiffany Springs and swimming at CoCoKey.

  29. Kelly says:

I had special days with each of my kids.Macie and I went to Starlight for High School Musical. Ethan and I went to the Air Show at the Downtown airport. Not sharing mom with anyone else is very special to them.

We loved going to Wonderscope and then hitting Splash Cove in Shawnee when it opened. It opens at 10:30, which is great if you have little ones. We learned that if you have a Wonderscope membership you can also get the season pool pass for the resident price!
