To wrap up Spring Break, we headed to Moon Marble Company, located in Bonner Springs, KS. It was a terrific time! Moon Marble is the only place of its kind in the country. Not only do they make beautiful marbles and other glass items there, but there is a wonderful retail store. I will be heading back in the fall, if not sooner, to do some Christmas shopping. They carry all of the old-fashioned, retro games and toys you remember from your youth: paper dolls, car bingo, even a Snoopy SnowCone Machine!
Brian (seen pictured) expertly crafted a “boulder” marble out of glass and we were able to watch from nearby bleachers. The kids oohed and aahed everytime he torched the marble! You know that anything having to do with fire is a big hit with the under-12 set!
They are used to hosting kids’ groups, ie)scouting troops, and the group deal includes a lesson on REAL marble playing (do you know how to ‘knuckle down’?) followed by a marble-making demonstration and the finale is when the kids get to fill a clear tube w/ approximately 20 marbles to take home. There were literally tens of thousands to choose from!
Check out Moon Marble. It was a fun, easy trip–only 20 min. from Overland Park. We even had lunch in town–the Jet Fuel Cafe served up some great sandwiches for adults and kids alike.
